"Doc" Edward Elmer Smith Ph.D., like Garrett P. Serviss was an early 20th century scientist that turned sci-fi writer. Doc Smith made my "keepers" list after listening to a couple of his books. After listening to the Lensman series the 1st time, I questioned my classification as "keepers". But now I think it was because I listened to the books too close together and got burned out on them.Doc Smith's book are a bit more technical than a lot of sci-fi authors.
