Narration: good.
Story: good and very different from the Sci-Fi Channel movie Riverworld. The plot in the book is for the main character to reach the head waters of the river and avoid capture by the "elite" that created Underworld. Where the movie is about defeating Julius Ceaser and building a paddle river boat.
