Summary by Graphic Audio:
There is a part of the Forest where it is always night, where the tall trees bow together to shut out the light. Men call it the Darkwood. The border fort on the edge of the Darkwood had been built to keep the peace. So far it had, but after delivery of a large consignment of gold it falls silent, answering neither natural nor supernatural communication. When the Forest King sends a small force, combining sorcerous and military skills, they find a deserted fortress soaked in blood. Magic reveals something malevolent and unreachable somewhere in the fort. But Duncan MacNeil and his company have human foes, greedy for gold, to deal with before they can take on the inhuman...

Summary:
PLOT: Invasion from Mercury. This is how the invasion began. The farmer saw a huge fire burning near the center of his field. "It was circular in form and about thirty feet in diameter. He was astonished to see it there, but what surprised him more was its peculiar aspect." A glow began to emanate from it. The thing was later to be called the "Mercutian Light". And whatever entered the light was destroyed.
The fate of the Earth was in the hands of Bob Trevor, a newspaperman, Professor Newland, and others. Would the Earth be saved from the invaders from Mercury?
Is this story similar to H G Wells' War of the Worlds? Read it to find out.
Ray Cummings was called the "American H.G. Wells" and one of the "founding fathers of the science fiction pulp genre". THE FIRE PEOPLE is one of his early space adventures. It was originally serialized in 5 parts in All-Story Weekly Magazine (Oct 21 thru Nov 18, 1922). This upload only contains the complete text of "The Fire People." There are no other stories from All-Story Magazine.

Publisher's Summary
The invasion of Alaska has begun. And the Third World War may not be far behind.
In this controversial book, Vaughn Heppner explores the theme of a shattered America facing the onslaught of the new colossus in the East: Greater China.
The time is 2032, and the Chinese are crossing the polar ice and steaming through the Gulf of Alaska. They have conquered oil-rich Siberia and turned Japan into a satellite state. Now a new glacial period has begun, devastating the world's food supply. China plans to corner the world's oil market and buy the needed food for their hungry masses.
A weakened America uses old technology against the next generation of military hardware. The invasion unleashes the Hell of battle as two armies turn the snowfields of Alaska red with blood.
Invasion: Alaska is a thundering techno-thriller of vast scope from bestselling author Vaughn Heppner.

In the not-so-distant future, men have come to Mars to escape the oppressive Earth government. Ryan is an agent for a super-secret government agency, the Department of Control (DOC), and has always been willing to do whatever his masters want of him. But on Mars, everything is different, and all that Ryan does is read books: hardboiled, noir crime paperbacks dating from the last century. In fact, such works are read and collected by everyone on Mars, even serving as a medium of exchange. Why? Is there some secret DOC plot involved? Or has Ryan conjured up a literary fantasy in his own guilt-twisted mind? Maybe he's still confined in a prison cell back on Earth, reading a science-fiction novel called Mars Needs Books! As Ryan probes deeper and deeper into the mystery, he comes to understand just one thing: he must uncover the truth!

Publisher's Summary
Lincoln Miller, an ex-Navy SEAL turned NCIS special agent, is sent to Aquarius, the world's only sub-oceanic research facility, located off the Florida Keys, to investigate reports of ocean dumping. A week into his stay, strange red flakes descend from the surface. Scores of fish are dead and dying, poisoned by the debris that turns to powder in Miller's fingers and tastes like blood.
Miller heads for the surface, ready to fight whoever is polluting on his watch. But he finds nothing. No ships. No polluters.
No oxygen.
Instead, he finds a cloudless sky full of red particles dropping like snow and coating the ocean with a thick film that stretches to the horizon. When a dead blue whale collides with Aquarius, Miller begins a harrowing race to escape the affected area.
Cut off from the rest of the world and surrounded by death, Miller makes his way to Miami, where he discovers just one survivor and the awful truth: The strange phenomenon that robbed the air of its life-giving oxygen was an attack by an enemy reborn from the ashes of World War II. And they're just getting started.
Miami, Tel Aviv, and Tokyo have all been destroyed. Millions are dead. And if Miller can't track down and stop those responsible in seven days, the rest of the world is next.
